Adams Horse Supply Giveaway Haul!

So a few weeks ago, Jen at CobJockey ran a giveaway to celebrate 100 followers, and I won. I never win! So with a $50 gift certificate to Adams Horse Supply, and some extra cash I'd been saving, I went on a mini shopping spree.

Unfortunately, it was mostly all really boring stuff!

I got a spare set of XW clipper blades (body clipping season is upon us), an extra small-hole hay net, an extra RWR hairnet, a black dressage whip (my 2 are, respectively, grey with a huge rip in the middle, and baby blue with sparkles), some treats, and some new winter gloves.

The two most exciting items are definitely the treats and the gloves!

Cute packaging in a re-closeable bag
Dino was VERY excited about getting to taste-test some just-for-him cookies! I bought him a bag of Hilton Herballs, a treat designed especially for equines with Cushing's, IR, or other metabolic problems. They have no sugar, and are made with low-starch flours and herbs. They also smell AWESOME due to the mint and rosemary in the recipe. At $6 a bag, they aren't wildly expensive, but when I can get a monster bag of roasted peanuts for less than that, I'm not sure I'll make the Herballs a regular treat purchase.

Crunchy, munchy bites of goodness
Dino absolutely LOVED the Herballs, and gave them two hooves up. After he tasted the first one, he got all googly-eyed and started looking for more. It was really great for me to be able to give him a special treat that fits in with his dietary requirements, and while I may not have Hilton Herballs on hand all the time, I'll definitely buy them for Dino again.

I also decided to try out some new winter gloves for this year, as my old standby SSG Thinsulate-lined leather gloves are coming apart at the seams. I picked out the Heritage Summit Winter Gloves, and while I haven't had a chance to really test them out yet, they seem like they'll do the trick. I really like how the cuff of the glove is nice and long, so my wrists won't be hanging out in the cold. The gloves are also very flexible and light - I feel like I can actually use my fingers while wearing them. They also have a grippy synthetic palm, are supposedly water-resistant, warmly lined, and touch-screen-friendly. The size 7 fits true to size, and the fingers are actually long enough for me. Yay! I hope these gloves will stand up to the abuse I put my winter gloves through, because so far I really like them.

Thanks again, Jen, for running such a great contest!

  3. nice haul - and congrats! and that stuff is definitely not boring - can't be all new saddles all the time lol.

question about the peanuts - does he eat the shell too or do you husk them for him?

    1. He eats them shell and all! I get the whole roasted ones, no salt. I've found most horses like them, too, so it's a good, cheap treat option for everyone.

  4. Ohhhh I may have helped myself out with this contest, haha. As a glove hoarder and especially a reynaud's stricken winter glove hoarder, I have been interested in the Heritage gloves for a long time but never tried them. Make sure to do a good review, and congratulations again!

    1. I didn't know you had reynaud's, that's terrible! These gloves are so lightweight and flexible, I do wonder how warm they'll be, and how waterproof, so I will be sure to do an in-depth review once I've gotten a chance to use them! It's always a struggle to find gloves that are warm enough and still let you actually use your fingers.
