Life Is Change

We are, all of us, adjusting.

Adjusting to life without thundering galloping puppy paws, helped in no small part by the hope of saving another dog in the new year. I can think of no better way to honor Lula and her larger-than-life enthusiasm than giving another dog the best home possible, so, we are moving towards adopting another creature in need soon.

And Dino, bless him, is adjusting to working in the indoor.

The past couple weeks have seen limited riding with the (far, far too many) social commitments that the holiday season brings, but each ride has been better than the last with my Wonder Pony. He has, two months in, finally decided that the indoor is not a Death Box, and is nearly his normal workmanlike self on a daily basis. I think that the addition of frequent bareback and bridleless rides is  helping his work ethic, and I've been trying my best to build positive experiences for him in the indoor while not letting him get away with being a lazy bum. The result has been the reduction in pony'tude tantrums to almost nil, and a pony who is happy to buckle down and do his job each evening. It lifts my heart to see him thriving in his work again, and to know that even when I don't have enough of myself left to make it out to the barn, he's still happy and cared for.

Life is change, and pain, but in it there are also horses and dogs - given to us to help bear it all.

  1. Still thinking of you and Lula. Hoping someone with as much love to give as she did comes along soon.

  2. As I announced in our most recent staff meeting at work, I am rabidly allergic to change. It brings out the cane-rattling old lady in me. Furry things do indeed improve things & I can't wait to see the next creature who is lucky enough to find itself in your generous care. <3

I can't wait to see what you end up with. Glad Dino is having fun this winter. I envy you that arena so so much!! I am so glad you found a place where he is happy and thriving!! Spring is coming! :)
