Home Sweet Home

Things have been quiet here on the blog lately for several reasons, the most significant of which is that my husband and I just bought a house!

This little three bedroom, two bathroom ranch house on two glorious secluded acres is OURS, and I still can't even believe it! The house was just about totally move-in-ready when we put in our offer, but of course if you know Mike and I, you know we can't just leave well enough alone and are putting in a lot of sweat equity to put our own stamp on the place. But first... a bit of a virtual tour!

The front door opens up into a nice big, spacious foyer which I am SUPER pumped about. I'm imagining my favorite antique bench on that left wall, and the walls will be painted a soft grey. All of that dark walnut colored trim will be WHITE. I've bought a lot of primer. Like. A lot of primer. To the left is the living room...

This living room is absolutely MASSIVE compared to what we've been used to in our last 6 years of living in apartments. It was honestly a little intimidating to try and imagine how to place the furniture in this room, but thankfully one of my mom's good friends is an interior designer and she helped us out a TON with figuring out the layout. I can't wait to see how it transforms once it's painted a warm grey-beige with white trim, that hideous ceiling fan is replaced, and the mirror and floral curtains are gone. This will be the central hub for living and entertaining, and I can't wait to see how it blossoms into a modern, comfortable space!

I. Love. This. Kitchen. There is so much SPACE - counter space and just pure square footage - and the big glass sliding doors, skylight, and window over the sink make this room SO bright and lovely to be in. And it has TWO PANTRIES. TWO. My "pantry" right now is legit two tiny cabinets in my dark apartment kitchen and I won't even know what to do with two full-size pantries. But the kitchen is also getting a total makeover! We're getting a new dishwasher and refrigerator, all that wainscoting and trim is going from dark stain to white, walls will be a similar grey-beige to the living room, lower cabinets are going navy blue and upper cabinets are getting painted khaki. All new hardware too, of course! This room is going to look SO DIFFERENT and I can't wait. I'd love to replace the sink at some point too, but that's lower on the priority list.

The laundry room/mud room is also getting re-painted, and the washer and dryer will be installed in just a couple weeks. I'm looking forward to see how we make use of what will certainly be a very functional space.

Here we have the hallway with closets and a bathroom on the near end, and the three bedrooms at the far end. Everything is getting painted. (Maybe I need to get more primer...)

And the final room I have photos of at the moment is the master bedroom with this HUUUUGE walk-in closet that is honestly the stuff of dreams for me. Again, MOAR PAINT will happen here! The master suite would also not be complete without this delightful, very pink, whirlpool tub. I kinda love it.

There are two other bedrooms but they're small and difficult to photograph. Even so, I'll try to get some before-and-afters of those rooms as well since the old carpet is going bye-bye and we're putting in the same type of flooring that's in the rest of the house.

So, between Dino's injury and getting the house ready to move into at the end of the month, there's not been a ton of riding going on! I'm hoping to have a couple posts on how Sully is coming along since I've been able to give him a ride here and there, but stay tuned for lots more house progress photos!
