Getting instruction from the best
While I started the spring season with a bang, taking 2 lessons with a new trainer in the span of 2 weeks back in March, since then I've been adrift when it comes to a regular program of professional guidance.

Dino had displayed an atrocious lack of work ethic during those lessons, and I'd be lying if I said they didn't leave me feeling frustrated and reluctant to go back for more. I took several weeks on my own to re-install Dino's willingness to work, taking care to switch up his training on a daily basis and keep things fun for him, doing things like warming up for dressage with a gallop, trail riding, and jumping with friends to encourage him to participate willingly.

Before I knew it the Lainey Ashker clinic was upon us, and we all know how that went.

It's been over a month since the clinic, and life just seems to have gotten in the way of scheduling any more lessons with Trainer S.

And while I'd like to think I've accepted the fact that my former (wonderful, lovely, incredibly talented) trainer has moved on permanently from eventing and from Eastern Pennsylvania, I still stubbornly see any other trainer in the unflattering light of Not As Good As Her.

Which, I know, is silly, not to mention highly unproductive.

The beginning of my competition season is staring me hard in the face, with Burgundy Hollow scheduled for the end of May and the hope of squeezing in a Combined Test or hunter show before then, and I'm beginning to feel a little panicky about being ready for it.

I know I need a lesson, or five, but I'm hesitant and feeling a bit lost. Not to mention The Best Horse Husband Ever and I are moving apartments this weekend, which doesn't leave a whole lot of time for ponies.

Which leaves me floating around, a little discouraged, a little worried, and wondering what to do.

I should probably just call and schedule another lesson.

But maybe I'll wait until after the move.

  1. Moving is the pits and I would probably also schedule for lessons after all the craziness

  2. Trainer hunting is hard. Courage has different issues, but they make me REALLY picky about what trainers I ride with because one bad lesson can set me back months. Not exaggerating. Done it.

    Best of luck!

  4. I hate when life gets in the way -- but I try to remind myself that there will always be more lessons and more shows and sometimes it's okay to focus on life outside of ponies

  5. schedule the lesson(s). at least from my perspective as a creature of habit (and an admitted lesson junkie), settling into a routine program helps like nothing else. good luck!

  6. Hey no worries! Life gets stressful and don't worry about trying to meet every goal. Its an ongoing process of becoming a kick ass rider so don't stress :)
